ROLE TITLE:
 Paint Sprayer

REPORTING TO: Bodyshop Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

To prepare, spray, and finish vehicles to the highest quality standard, ensuring accurate colour matching, a flawless finish, and compliance with company and customer expectations. The Paint Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, adhering to all health and safety standards, and supporting both qualified and non-qualified colleagues where applicable.

QUALIFIED/ NON-QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN EXPECTATIONS

Qualified Paint Technician

A qualified Paint Technician is expected to complete work independently to the required technical, safety, and quality standards. This may also include supporting, guiding, and, where appropriate, supervising less experienced or non-qualified technicians.

Non-Qualified Paint Technician

A non-qualified or trainee Paint Technician will carry out duties appropriate to their level of skill, training, and experience, under the direction and supervision of a qualified Paint Technician or manager.

MAIN TASKS

Paint Preparation & Application

  • Prepare vehicles for painting, including masking, sanding, priming, and other surface preparation as required.
  • Spray paint vehicles to achieve the required finish, colour accuracy, and company standards.
  • Maintain a high level of workmanship and attention to detail, ensuring customer satisfaction and minimal rework.
  • Update knowledge of spray painting techniques, paint products, and application methods through training and professional development.

Quality Control

  • Check completed work to ensure a flawless finish before vehicles are returned to the next stage or the customer.
  • Identify defects or areas needing attention and report or correct them in line with company procedures.
  • Support non-qualified staff in achieving quality standards, providing coaching and guidance where necessary.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Always use PPE, follow safe working practices, and comply with all company and legal health and safety regulations.
  • Attend medical checks as required and report any health or vision concerns to management promptly.
  • Maintain all tools, spray equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition, minimising fire hazards and other risks.
  • Comply with COSHH and other relevant chemical safety procedures when using paints and solvents.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, team leaders, and other departments to ensure repair schedules and quality targets are met.
  • Communicate effectively regarding job progress, any delays, or additional work requirements.
  • Support a positive, professional, and productive workshop environment.

OTHER DUTIES

Due to the size and complexity of the establishment, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager of the group with whom you have a reporting relationship.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Previous experience in automotive painting, refinishing, or a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of spray painting techniques, colour matching, and paint preparation methods.
  • Attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and COSHH procedures in a paint shop environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professionally presented.
  • Willingness to attend training courses to maintain and improve skills.

Desirable

  • IMI Accreditation in Paint
  • Experience with modern paint technologies (water-based, basecoat/clearcoat systems, hybrid/EV materials).
  • Previous experience supervising or mentoring non-qualified staff.
  • Familiarity with bodyshop repair processes and workflow.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be discussed during the interview and will depend on experience and qualifications. The role includes site bonus opportunities.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience is essential and ATA accredited is preferred.

Hours are 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
