ROLE TITLE: Multiskilled Technician

REPORTING TO: General Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The Multiskilled Technician (MET, Panel, Paint) is responsible for carrying out a range of vehicle repairs to a high-quality standard, including dismantling and reassembly, body panel repair/replacement, and painting/finishing. The role ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with repair estimates, manufacturer methods, company procedures, and customer expectations.

QUALIFIED/ NON-QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN EXPECTATIONS

Qualified Multiskilled Technician

A qualified Multiskilled Technician is expected to complete work independently to the required technical, safety, and quality standards. They may also support, guide, and, where appropriate, supervise less experienced or non-qualified technicians.

Non-Qualified Multiskilled Technician

A non-qualified Multiskilled Technician will carry out duties appropriate to their skill, training, and experience, under the direction and supervision of a qualified technician or manager.

MAIN TASKS

Mechanical, Electrical & Trim (MET)

  • Strip and rebuild vehicles in accordance with repair estimates and company procedures.
  • Ensure quality checks are completed and advise the manager of any additional work identified.
  • Ensure all jobs are completed within estimated times, and all parts are ordered and returned as required.
  • Adhere to housekeeping, health, and safety regulations applicable to the role and environment.

Panel

  • Dismantle and repair damaged panels or replace panels that are beyond repair, including chassis and structural components.
  • Operate all equipment, including jigs, fixtures, and welding tools, safely and according to prescribed methods and qualifications.
  • Follow manufacturer literature, technical bulletins, and attend training to keep skills and knowledge updated.
  • Handle all vehicles with care, maintain tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition, and ensure customer satisfaction is maintained.

Paint

  • Understand spray-painting technology, paint composition, mixing, and application methods, updating knowledge with product developments.
  • Prepare vehicles for painting (masking, sanding, priming) and achieve the required finish/colour match to company and customer standards.
  • Use prescribed safety apparatus and attend company-arranged medicals; report any health or vision issues immediately.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition, minimising fire hazards.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and team leaders to achieve group objectives.

OTHER DUTIES

Due to the size and complexity of the establishment, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager of the group with whom you have a reporting relationship.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Proven experience in vehicle repair across one or more disciplines: MET, Panel, or Paint.
  • Knowledge of repair methods, manufacturer specifications, and technical bulletins.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-skilled team.
  • Awareness of health, safety, and COSHH regulations in a workshop environment.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Professional, reliable, and proactive approach to work.

Desirable

  • IMI Accreditation
  • Experience working across multiple disciplines (MET, Panel, Paint).
  • Experience supervising or mentoring non-qualified technicians or apprentices.
  • Familiarity with modern repair technologies, including aluminium and high-strength steel.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be discussed during the interview and will depend on experience and qualifications. The role includes site bonus opportunities.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience is essential and a IMI Accreditation is preferred.

Hours are 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
