ROLE TITLE:Â Panel Technician
REPORTING TO:Â Bodyshop Manager
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To repair or replace damaged vehicle body panels, including chassis and framework, in line with manufacturer specifications, repair methods, and job card instructions. The Panel Technician ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high-quality standard, while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
QUALIFIED/ NON-QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN EXPECTATIONS
Qualified Panel Technician
A qualified Panel Technician is expected to complete work independently to the required technical, safety, and quality standards. This may also include supporting, guiding, and, where appropriate, supervising less experienced or non-qualified technicians.
Non-Qualified Panel Technician
A non-qualified or trainee Panel Technician will carry out duties appropriate to their level of skill, training, and experience, under the direction and supervision of a qualified Panel Technician or manager.
MAIN TASKS
Vehicle Panel Repair & Replacement
- Dismantle and repair damaged vehicles by repairing panels or replacing those beyond repair.
- Work safely with all equipment, including jigs, fixtures, and welding tools, following manufacturer instructions, training, and safety procedures.
- Repair or replace chassis and structural components in line with manufacturer guidance and modification bulletins.
- Attend training courses as required to stay up to date with new techniques and repair methods.
Quality & Customer Care
- Ensure all repaired vehicles meet company and customer quality expectations.
- Handle vehicles with care and attention to avoid further damage.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and the work area in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Support non-qualified staff to ensure work meets quality standards.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply fully with all company health and safety policies, COSHH regulations, and legal requirements.
- Follow safe working practices at all times, including the correct use of PPE and equipment.
- Maintain awareness of fire, electrical, and workshop hazards, reporting any concerns to management promptly.
- Adhere to housekeeping standards in the workshop and work areas.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, management, and other departments to ensure repair schedules and quality targets are met.
- Communicate effectively regarding job progress, delays, or additional work requirements.
- Contribute to a positive, professional, and productive workshop environment.
OTHER DUTIES
Due to the size and complexity of the establishment, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager of the group with whom you have a reporting relationship.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Previous experience in vehicle body panel repair and replacement.
- Knowledge of welding, jigging, and structural repair techniques.
- Understanding of manufacturer specifications, technical bulletins, and repair methods.
- Attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Awareness of health, safety, and COSHH regulations in a bodyshop environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and professionally presented.
- Willingness to attend training courses to maintain and improve skills.
Desirable
- IMI Accreditation in Panel
- Experience with modern repair technologies, including aluminium and high-strength steel.
- Experience supervising or mentoring non-qualified staff.
- Familiarity with structural repair, chassis alignment, and workshop workflow.
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Salary will be discussed during the interview and will depend on experience and qualifications. The role includes site bonus opportunities.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience is essential and IMI Accreditation is preferred.
Hours are 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
