ROLE TITLE: MET/ Panel Technician

REPORTING TO: Bodyshop Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To dismantle, reassemble, repair, or replace damaged mechanical, electrical, trim and body components of vehicles in accordance with repair estimates and methods issued. The MET/Panel Technician ensures all work is completed professionally, within estimated times, and to a high standard while adhering to health and safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications.

Qualified staff are expected to complete all tasks independently and may provide supervision to non-qualified team members. Non-qualified staff will be required to work under the direct supervision of a qualified technician.

MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Professionally and accurately dismantle and reassemble vehicles in line with job cards and repair estimates, checking and following issued methods for each repair.
  • Carry out structural and panel repairs or replacements, including chassis and framework, using appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques.
  • Use jigs, fixtures, and welding equipment safely and correctly, following prescribed standards and the level of qualification.
  • Adhere to all manufacturer instructions, literature, and technical bulletins relevant to MET and panel repairs.
  • Advise your Line Manager of any deviations, additional work, or issues encountered during repair.
  • Ensure all replacement parts are ordered as per the estimate and return unused parts to the parts department for credit.
  • Carry out quality checks on your own work and that of others where applicable, ensuring all jobs are completed within the allocated timescales.
  • Supervise and support non-qualified technicians as required.
  • Attend training courses when necessary to keep up to date with new repair methods, tools, and technologies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with company housekeeping and health & safety policies.
  • Handle all customer vehicles with care, ensuring high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.

TECHNICAL JOB KNOWLEDGE:

The level and scope of technical knowledge will be discussed and agreed upon with your manager or team leader.

OTHER DUTIES:

Due to the size and complexity of the establishments, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager to whom you have a reporting relationship.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Up to £52,000 OTE – includes site bonus and is dependent on experience and qualifications.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience is essential, and ATA accreditation is preferred.

Hours are 8am – 5pm, Monday–Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
